Johnny Yen Bang! - Folk I Gata 12" 1981

Johnny Yen were an early punk icon in Norway, but he quickly saw the potential in the DIY-esthetics of punk and explored other ways of doing music. He made this single with the help of Helge Gaarder (Kjøtt, Cirkus Modern) who produced it and made the b-side dub mix.

Mr Krystal Party - Loveducks 7" 1987

This is a real weird one. Falling somewhere between post-punk, indie, the bizarre and brilliant pop songs. Like Athletic Arabs Mr Krystal party were from Örebro in Sweden and I think you can hear a resemblance between both bands. They only released this single but were a bit hyped in the press for a while. A forgotten classic!

Cockpit Music - Transworld of Sounds DLP 1981

Cockpit Music were T.S. Høeg, Søren Tarding and Peter Ole Jørgensen. They were formed around 1980 and were active in the creative millieu around the punks in Copenhagen, sharing stage with bands like Sods. They released a lot of records and seems to still be around today. This is their first (double) LP. Sometimes punk, most of the time jazz, sometimes really out there.

Pinheads - With The Pinheads LP 1981

Pinheads were on of the first punk groups in Umeå, Sweden, and made quite a lot of records. This is their second release, after their first single but before they morphed into the garage-rock band they later became. This is the best swedish punk LP ever, in my humble opinion.

Hefty Load - Hefty Load LP 1983

Hefty Load were from Finland and released a bizarre single in 1981, and then this LP in 1983. It sounds spastic, danceable and moody all at the same time. Comparisons would be more dance-oriented bands like A Certain Ratio or TC Matic but with that unique nordic touch.

Daisi Doody - Kaos 7" 1987

I don't know anything about this band. Except that they released this single on Lennart Ökvist's label Parabellum. It's an almost folk-y goth-tinged post punk, with a drum machine. Really great stuff! Daisy Doody were one of the characters in Harry Martinssons "Aniara".

Spastisk Ekstase - 3 Mord 12" 1982

Spastisk Ekstase were a Norwegian post-punk supergroup. Among the musicians we can notice Helge Gaarder from Kjøtt and Cirkus Modern, Beranek, Don Buchanan from The Cut et. al. The title means "Three murders" and each songtitle corresponds to this by ending with "dreper", which means kills. So, it's: gode hjem dreper = good homes kills. Sadly, the band, or project, only released this record. A real classic.

Dehex! - Indisk natt 7" 1982

Dehex were from Helsingborg in Sweden and only made this single before disbanding. It was produced by the musical genius Henrik Venant, who played in TT-Reuter, Underjordiska Lyxorkester etc. Some members of Dehex also played in Digital Terror.

Tzarina Q Cut - On Wave Cassette 1988

Tzarina Q Cut were a noisy jazz duo from Denmark consisting of Jørgen Teller and Jakob Draminsky Højmark. They made a few tapes and two LPs before moving on to more arty stuff. This is their first tape. Kind of no wave, kind of avant-garde jazz, kind of noise.

Athletic Arabs - The Golden Age 7" 1987

Great band from Örebro in Sweden. They made this debut single and two great and weird LPs. Members of the band moved on to greater things. Athletic Arabs also played in North Korea.

New life in old shoes

New music blog. Great. Like old times. Long time no see. Have shoes, will walk. Essence derived from long nights, black tea, no life, no friends, lots of knowledge that leads nowhere. Is there still anyone out there listening? The only thing growing is the record collections, i suppose. Hopefully I will pirate the shit out of some stuff that can't be found on the net as of now. Lots of 80's stuff. Mainly from the Nordic countries, like Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland. Possibly also Iceland. Cheers to all the old folks still going strong, like Die or DIY. Great stuff! Hope you like it!

Also, all music is in 320 mp3 format. Ripped by me. Not made by me. The rights reserved are the rights of the bands and musicians.

The post-punk monk.
