Weird danish band led by singler Helge Dürrfeld. They released three records in the late eighties and if I translate the title of this album to "More songs about sex and work" you can easily sense that Talking Heads were a huge influence on these guys. I can also hear much of the B52's here. Great pop music!

After the breakup of The Aller Værste Sverre Knudsen and Chris Ericsen teamed up with drummer Geir "Bulle" Underdal from Betong Hysteria and Siste Dagers Hellige for this LP forming the group Løver & Tigre (Lions and tigers). On this record we can also hear double bass and violin played by two members of norwegian jazz band Hot Club de Norvege. The music is more experimental than TAV! with great drumming from Bulle and dadaistic lyrics from Knudsen. The LP was released in a limited hand painted edition of 2000 and a second edition of 1000 copies with cover depicting the painting session that produced the painted covers. A hidden gem!
If you like this record please consider streaming it in popular streamingapps, where it can be found with additional bonus tracks. Or purchase the remastered edition from Sverre Knudsens bandcamp!

The indie record label from Gävle in the early 80's were called Mamma and this was their big release. A pizza carton-style box with 4 singles containing the best bands from Gävle at the time. The best one is, of course, the Modern Art-track. The rest of the songs is in the range of new wave to punk with the bands Traste & Superstararna, PF Commando, Ex-Pop, Zeke Varg, Vertex, Pinballs and Human Error.

After his first LP Di Leva started a collaboration with producer Billy Bolero and his record label Papa Records. This was the first single released during Bolero's time with Di Leva. The sound is more and more pop, but you can still hear his post punk past.

An often overlooked single in the Di Leva repertoire. This one was released on one of the largest indie labels of the times: Stranded Rekords. Since Di Leva at this time collaborated with a lot of the people involved in the label I guess the choice was pretty simple. Here we can hear his approach to a more pop-oriented sound.

As i understand this single was recorded with the same members as the previous Modærn art-single, but since Thomas turned the whole band to his solo backing band anyway they changed their name to Di Leva. This single was released on Billy Madden's Adventure Records and includes a beautiful cover of a Sinatra song. A classic!

After Pillisnorks DiLeva started the band Modern Art. This band never released any records and split up, some members starting the band Maria Stuart and DiLeva starting Modærn Art. More and more a vehicle for DiLevas solo material they released this single. Great post punk!

This record started the career of now acclaimed Swedish artist Thomas DiLeva, but Pillisnorks were much more than just Dileva. They came from Gävle and only managed to release this record before they split up. I hear that the original members sans Thomas has reformed the band and now performs together with members of russian political punks Pussy Riot. This, however, is art-post-punk.

Denmarks best band ever released this single about 25 years after it was supposed to be released. As we can hear on the bonus CD of the re-release of their first album the band folded before they could release more material. The A-side is a bit too much of their "metal"-side, like the first track on the "For"-album, but still a great track. The B-sides live recording is one of the bands evergreens.

Swedish weird pop music from Örebro. Apparently the band saw their music as a sort of middle position between The Beatles and Bauhaus. They manage to display almost every musical style on this album, all filtered through a fine pop sensibility. A great and forgotten album.

Jonee Jonee's second and last release. For some reason this came out on an Italian label called Extrema! which seems mysterious as they were an Icelandic band. The cover is in a nice booklet-style. Blár means blue in icelandic and azzurro means blue in italian, so I guess this was their blue album. Drums, bass and attitude.

This was released through Sator's (as they were later called) fan club. A limitied edition single with two tracks from the bands very early days. One of them can also be found on the B-side of the "Leech"-single. Great goth rock!

This is a special one, since it's not really a concept album but a kind of rock-theatre-performance. With members of danish band Scatterbrain. The story is the traditional dystopian nightmare, like 1984 and feels a bit juvenile in some parts, but it's an interesting album with great music.

This is their second LP and the first one with Trevor Searle as the singer. This is full-on garage rock with mostly covers of the classics in this genre, with some interesting parts but mostly music for people with full time jobs that come home and just want to be entertained. My favourite is the hidden closing track: another adaption of their song "Hemming Sten" filtered through their silly humour. Rock on, guys!

For this release Kenneth and Jan Marklund had left the band. They were replaced with Erik Danielsson on guitar and the englishman-in-Umeå Trevor Searle. I think they lost a great deal of originality during this period, but perhaps this was the point - they did mostly covers, like any good garage band. This, however, is two Pinheads-penned songs and one cover done live. Moderately good pop music, but people gotta hear this!

Pinheads from Umeå again. This is their first release so there's no "Greatest hits vol. 1". Just a bad joke. From the spoken parts on this record you can guess that they had quite silly humor. The best song here is of course "Hemming Sten", their version of "Stepping stone". A song about the stupidity of critics. This is the best punk single in the world ever.
And here's the lyric insert so you all can sing along:

There were tons of interesting privately released singles in the later part of the eighties with goth bands trying to mimic Sisters of Mercy. Even in Finland there were a few. This is one of them. I Don't know anything about Prostitutes but this is two nice guitar-driven tracks with drum machines. Lovely!
Saturday, 9 March 2019
For their second release their inspirations seems to have changed from contemporary swedish acts to the harder goth sound which would prove itself so popular in the later half of the eighties. No drum machines here, but that certain cowboy-touch that bands like Sisters of Mercy used. A great and tough goth single!
Friday, 8 March 2019
Swedish goth band from Stockholm. They released two singles and a couple of demos. This is their first single when the influence from Brända Barn is still apparent. Later on they would become more of a rock'n'roll band.

Wednesday, 6 March 2019
Danish band from Haderslev that only released this single and two tracks on a compilation album. They recorded an albums worth of material but it was never released until a couple of years ago when some of the tracks got a CD-release. This single still remains unreleased. Why is that, Dark Entries? Escape Artists sounds more like a Factory band than most Factory bands. One of the best!
Tuesday, 5 March 2019
Lokomotiv Konkret is a long running swedish free-jazz-improv-band led by activist Dror Feiler. On this live recording the locomotive also consisted of bassplayer Sigge Krantz, Sören Runolf on guitar and Tommy Björk playing drums. Great free form skronk.

Goz Mongo Alliance were from Helsingborg in Sweden and made several records. Members of the band also played in Inyurmania, Five o'clock Traffic and Nimam Spregleda. This sounds a lot like early Cabaret Voltaire. Great stuff!
Saturday, 2 March 2019
Ballet Mecanique were Martin Hall, Michael Karshøj and Morten Versner. They started the band Identity in the late seventies and later rechristened their project Ballet Mecanique. This is their first single. They were one of the best bands ever.
