Hot Sox - Plaster Force 7" 1982

Hot Sox were an experimental new wave / post punk band from Finland. I don't know anything about them, but they released an excellent album called "Das kapital" which can be found on spotify and other streaming apps. Do not miss that album (and their fantastic cover of "Purple haze"). This is their last single before disbanding. Great plastic twist music!

Jumalainen Näytelmä - Ja Maa Oli Hiljaa 7" 1987

Jumalainen Näytelmä means "The Divine Comedy" as in Aligheris masterpiece. I know nothing of this Finnish band except they also made an album (which I haven't heard). This is great post punk with pop leanings.

Päät - Onnenhetkiä LP 1982

Päät were one of the early finnish punk band but soon evolved and began playing more interesting music. They had a great pop sensibility in their music, kind of like a more post-punk version of The Smiths if that makes any sense. This is their first album.

SUB - Go Baby Go 7" 1987

This is another one of those Finnish bands that I don't know anything about. It's great late-eighties goth rock played with vigour. The band released a couple of more singles that will follow soon.

Zägä Box - Kellopelipasianssi 7" 1986

Unfortunately I don't know anything about this band. They only released this single and vanished into obscurity. A pretty decent effort with the sound of the times and some gothic and post punk elements in the new-wave-mix.

The Art Of Breeding LP 1983

Great sampler from Finland containing several great acts. Like Hefty Load, with three great songs not found on their wonderful album. Jimi Sumen, Finlands David Bowie, also appears, as well as Twiggy Oliver (another, less interesting Bowie-clone) and General Nassja. Great dance-wave music!

AD - AD LP 1984

What can I say about one of the best records ever? Unfortunately I don't know much about the band at all. They released three records and changed line-up a couple of times. Some years ago they reformed and released some CDs but I haven't heard those records. This is their first and best album, where I can hear a lot of influences from Birthday Party. It's like a Finnish version of Nick Cave's gang drunk on heavy liquor instead of heroin. Do not miss this.

Ragnar Hare - Barn Till Himlen 12" 1986

I read somewhere that the band named themselves after the phrase "you think you've got it, but Ragnar's got it" which in Swedish translates to "du tror du har'e men Ragnar har'e" and the band got their name. I can't find that site when i browse the net now, though. This was Ragnar Hare's last release. Recorded in Sweden and still sung in that nice, charming "finlandssvenska" (finnish-swedish). I believe they made a video of the song-that-should-have-been-a-hit on this record: "Sven minns ingenting". Look for it on youtube. Also, look at that cover! Fantastic!

Musta - Myrskyn Merkit 7" 1981

Strange band from Turku, Finland that only released this single but existed for several years in the eighties. They also appeared on a compilation album but with one of the songs from this release. The music is great post punk with synths.

Ragnar Hare - Bit 7" 1984

Great band from Jakobstad in Finland. A huge part of Finland has a long tradition of speaking swedish, a practice which was enforced during Swedens occupation of Finland. This means that swedish is still a major language in Finland and explains why this finnish band sings in swedish. Ragnar Hare made another record that's even better than this one which will follow shortly. There's also some videos on youtube. Check this band out.

Reddrum Bop - Reddrum Bop LP 1987

Goth band from Oulo, Finland, that only released this album. The music takes off in all kinds of directions, sometimes they sound a bit like Syyskuu, then like a late-eighties alternative band, then something else. It's good, though. I'd love to know more about them.

Syyskuu - Sator LP 1984

Their one and only album. A long time ago I read somewhere that the band was so drunk at the time they recorded this album that they released it using the wrong mix. From a hi-fi point of view this record sounds really terrible so I guess that could be true. Anyone care to confirm or deny this? The music is real and great, though. This is how goth should sound.

Syyskuu - Susi 7" 1983

One of the best finnish goth bands ever, and one of the best in the world. Syyskuu only made two records and this was their debut. Great post punk goth in the Birthday Party school.

Prostitutes - Assimilation 7" 1987

There were tons of interesting privately released singles in the later part of the eighties with goth bands trying to mimic Sisters of Mercy. Even in Finland there were a few. This is one of them. I Don't know anything about Prostitutes but this is two nice guitar-driven tracks with drum machines. Lovely!

Alaston Lounas - Taivaskatto 7" 1985

Alaston Lounas means Naked Lunch. Of course from Burroughs book. They were from Kouvola, Finland and released this great single and one mini-LP. Don't know much more.

Hefty Load - Hefty Load LP 1983

Hefty Load were from Finland and released a bizarre single in 1981, and then this LP in 1983. It sounds spastic, danceable and moody all at the same time. Comparisons would be more dance-oriented bands like A Certain Ratio or TC Matic but with that unique nordic touch.
